Classical Five Element Acupuncture (CFEA), which is an ancient form of Chinese Medicine. It differs from other forms of acupuncture by identifying the root cause of an imbalance among the five elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.
Every individual either at conception or early in life develops an imbalance in the functioning and interaction of these five elements. This imbalance becomes the underlying cause of illness which can manifest on physical, emotional and spiritual levels. The source of the imbalance is referred to as the Causative Factor (CF).
Diagnosis and treatment of the CF is what sets CFEA apart from other acupuncture disciplines.
CFEA was brought to the West by J. R. Worsley. I trained at the Institute of Classical Five Element Acupuncture in Santa Monica, CA, a J. R. Worsley approved CFEA program with Professor Neil Gumenick. Worsley approved programs teach the same traditions that have existed for thousands of years.
Dr. Fred Russek is certified in Classical Five Element Acupuncture and describes it as a very individualized treatment option for patients with complex problems. In his experience, Medical Acupuncture works extremely well for acute and chronic problems as well as pain problems. However, in the last 18 years, the patients he has cared for have had increased pressures and stress of modern life. These increased stresses have created imbalances at the physical, emotional and spiritual levels, thus he finds CFEA to be a more effective treatment in these cases.
New patient CFEA appointments are 120-180 minutes in length. Follow up treatments are 60 min in length.
